Most of our activities involve the use of our hands. They are more likely to be exposed to the damaging rays of the sun and harsh chemicals than any other body part. Many people take care of the skin on their face by applying creams and lotions, but the hands are often neglected. As a result, our hands are the first place in the body to show signs of aging.
SIGNS OF AGING IN THE HANDS
Common signs of aging in the hand:
- Prominent veins
- Bony appearance
- Thinning of skin
- Pigmentation spots
WHAT IS A PRP HANDLIFT PROCEDURE?
PRP handlift is a way to improve the appearance of your hands by combing dermal fillers and platelet rich plasma (PRP) to help improve the appearance of the tone and texture of the skin and lift it away from the prominent tendons and veins in the back of the hand to restore youthful volume and shape.
WHAT IS PRP?
Our blood consists of a liquid component known as plasma and 3 types of cells, red blood cells (RBCs), white blood cells (WBCs), and platelets. Platelets play an important role in forming blood clots. They also consist of special proteins known as growth factors which help with our body’s healing process.
Platelet-rich plasma or PRP is a high concentration of platelets and plasma. PRP contains 5 to 10 times the concentration of growth factors found in normal blood, therefore it has potential greater healing properties.
WHY USE PRP?
PRP is known for its unique healing abilities and when activated, the platelets release several growth factors. This process stimulates healing and growth by activating an individual’s stem cells. From medical studies, PRP is only effective when concentrated to 5-9 times the concentration of blood.
TREATMENT DETAILS
A successful result begins with a thorough understanding of what a patient wants to achieve from the PRP handlift procedure.
Dr. Nuti first starts with an evaluation of the hand and consultation so that proper understanding is established in knowing what results are expected.
Afterwards, the physician will cleanse the skin with a gentle antiseptic and an anesthetic cream is applied and allowed to penetrate the treatment areas while blood is drawn from the arm.
Next, careful injection of PRP is placed into multiple target areas in the back of the hand.
AFTERCARE
Avoid rubbing or washing the area for 6 hours after the treatment. There may be transient redness and swelling in the area after the procedure, but this should not interfere with activities of daily living. The use of blood thinners, vigorous exercise and the sauna can be resumed in 24 hours. Avoid anti-inflammatory medications if possible for a few weeks after the procedure.
SIDE EFFECTS OF PRP HANDLIFT
The procedure is very safe as the PRP is obtained from your own body and the dermal filler has been used for aesthetic procedures for many decades. However, as with any procedure, there is always a minimal risk of bruising, infection, and pain at the injection site.
BENEFITS OF PRP HANDLIFT
The benefits of prp handlift include:
- Increased skin volume
- Reduced prominence of veins
- Smoothening of wrinkles
- Improved skin hydration
- Diminished age spots due to revitalization of tissue
HOW LONG DOES A PRP HANDLIFT LAST?
The effects of the procedure are noticeably immediately, although, it takes about 3 months for maximum effect. Depending on the severity of the condition, 2-3 treatment sessions may sometimes be required to obtain the desired results. The effects of the PRP handlift can potentially last up to 1 year.
